Description

This bootcamp-style series of workshops will teach graduate students and postdocs everything they need to know in applying for jobs beyond the academy, and include hands-on exercises to provide a meaningful takeaway from the experience.

Workshops will take place from 10:00 am-12:00 pm on January 24-27, 2017. Please look at the details of each workshop for location. Attend as many as you'd like!


01/24/17: Taking Charge of Your Job Search
Nau Hall, room 342
There's a lot that goes into a job application before just clicking "submit"! Participants will learn strategies to navigate and manage the job search process, including the job search timeline, where to look for jobs, how to tell which job ads are right for you, and how to identify and stick to your priorities during the job search process.


01/25/17: Creating a Compelling Resume
Newcomb Hall, Commonwealth Room
Participants will learn how to convert their academic experiences to transferable and marketable experiences for the non-academic market. Please bring a printed copy of a job advertisement you would like to apply to.


01/26/17: How to Craft a Cover Letter
Newcomb Hall, Commonwealth Room
Participants will learn how to draft a cover letter using a non-academic job ad. Please bring a printed copy of a job advertisement you would like to apply to.


01/27/17: Behavioral Interviewing Tips and Practice
Newcomb Hall, Commonwealth Room
Participants will practice responding to authentic interview questions they may encounter during a non-academic job interview.
